I had a chance to visit Gleeson today after reading about it in a tourist brochure. I enjoyed reading the plaques that have been installed at the jail and the Martinez house. Especially interesting was the creative "Gleeson" sign that someone constructed and is visible off the road as you enter from Tombstone. What is it made of? Also, had a chance to visit and talk to the couple who used to live in Gleeson and have moved a couple of miles down the road with their snakeskin, craft and rock store.

I am very interested in contacting other Gleeson descendants. I am a great-grandchild of John D Gleeson, my mother being born Evalyn N Gleeson, daughter of John's son, Emmet Gleeson.

My mother and her sister Lily are not in touch with family outside of Arizona, my aunt made a trip to Ireland some years ago, but was unable to contact any family members there.

We used to visit Gleeson over the years. I remember when the arch still stood over the hospital entrance, and was stunned when a photo of it was used on the cover of assigned reading for school, title 'The Unvanquished' (actually a story about the old south)

My mother has compiled some stories of her youth which touch on some history of the family and John and Emmet Gleeson, who were epic figures of the time.

I have heard that John's brother had continued on to Alaska, but our family lost all touch with him

Please ask the site administrator to provide contact information so that we can communicate.

Gary

Hi, my husband and I just looked at property for sale in Gleeson a few days ago. We fell in love with the area. It is a deeded mining claim. How awesome would that be to own a piece of history. The Tombstone area would be our next pick. You only live once so why not make it your dream! Thanks for the site...awesome info. and the jail looks sooo nice since it has been restored.

I visited Gleeson last month. Tina gave me a great tour and told me about the town's history. It's a great little place to spend a Saturday afternoon nosing around!

My name is Miriam Gleeson from Tipperary Ireland. I am a direct decendent of the Gleeson family from Moher, Upperchurch. My dad Edmond recently got an enqiry from a cousin from New York about the family and told us about the town of Gleeson in Arizona. Our family knew that a number of our ancestors went to the USA in the 1880s. We think that five members of the Gleeson family of John's generation left. The brother of John who remained in the ancestorial home in Moher Upperchurch was Bryan Gleeson. His son was Edmond, his son was Brian (my granddad) his son is Edmond (my dad) and I also have a brother Brian. There are still a number of families of Gleeson in Moher Upperchurch and a lot of relations in Tipperary and indeed throughout Ireland. We would be delighted to receive any information and would like to make contact with people who have connections with John Gleeson and his decendents. We are also interested in learning about the town of Gleeson.

Is it possible to relocate to Gleeson, Arizona.

If so, what are some options for doing so. I'm doing a little research, and looking for information. Nice site, thanks

Great site! Congratulations on the success of all your efforts!

I'm working on the ol' family tree and am interested in contacting others doing the same.

John Gleeson
born - 11 Nov 1861 Upper Church, County Tipperary, Ireland
immigrated - 1879
married - 1889 to Elizabeth Cummings
died - 31 Dec 1947 Bisbee, Cochise County, Arizona, USA
buried - Bisbee-Lowell Evergreen Cemetery, Aka Bisbee City Cemetery

Nothing written in stone there, lol, but it's a start! I have more information and would love to compare what I have with others.

Also, :) to clarify another guestbook signing, I believe that John and Eliazbeth Gleeson's daughter, Nellie, was married to Grover Cleveland Pidgeon and that Nellie and Grover had a son named John Gleeson Pidgeon.

Hoping to hear from distant relatives,
Jen :)
